New York Times vs. Local News

I like to watch the local news before going to the New York Times or BBC. I think the local news is more informative to me, and it relates to me. The New York times is very broad and covers the country. If I had time to watch the local news and read articles from the BBC and NYT I would. I do like how the BBC had the option of listening to the news. I also liked how the New York Times has different catagories and different blog topics.

cha cha slide ya'll!

i love the new McDonald's commerical with the little boy and his family eating dinner together. i like the commerical because it shows that McDonald's now has a variety of foods that people can choose from. things that are more healthy and not fried. the little boy is eating apple dippers and dancing to the cha cha slide at the same time. apples are healthy and kids like then when dipped in caramel. the commerical also shows that McDonald's can bring families together, especially during dinner time.
i was really engaged into the commercial first b/c of the song. i heard the cha cha slide song then looked to see what it was relating to. then i watched a few seconds of the commerical and saw a cute boy, in a jumpsuit, with a big boom box on his shoulder going to the dinner table to join the rest of his family for dinner. i kept watching b/c i wanted to see what happened next. the boy was also dancing along with the song and doing what the words were saying in the song. the rest of his family enjoyed watching him and decided to kindly join in.
as we watched in class McDonald's commericals are now relating to a more diverse group of people and relating to anyone around the world. anyone can watch this commerical and want to go get McDonald's. after i saw it i wanted to try the apple dippers from there. the commericals are now fun with alot of music and dancing. you can actually enjoy the commerials and laugh along with them. they are upbeat, hip, modern, and family oriented. i also like how McDonald's now has a nutrition label on everything.

shop macy's and be a STAR

i love the new Macy's commercials with all the celebrity cameos. i feel like Macy's has grown over the years. i know that it used to be hetch's and i wasn't a big fan of it then. but i have heard that Macy's in big cities like new york or DC are much better.
when i first saw the commercial i was hooked, and excited to see who was going to appear next. i love everyone that appears in it. Tyler Florence from food network, then Martha, who almost anyone can relate to, from my Jessica to puff daddy. i think that this commercial is targeting people from the ages of 18 and up. everyone that appeared in the commercial does more than one thing. Tyler Florence has his own show on food network, operates and owns restaurants, and sold many cook books. Martha Stewart is a household name and creates almost anything. Jessica Simpson has become an entrepreneur. shes released her own shoe line and has already done the music career. puff daddy is a music mogul by himself, along with his own line of clothing.
i think this commercial is trying to relate all of these stars to people who would shop at Macy's. you don't have to be a celebrity to shop or feel like a star. go to Macy's, and get experience it for yourself. i know every time i go to Macy's i always leave with something purchased. because of their great advertising and celebrity endorsements they are very successful.
the commercial definitely made me want to go there and see what was new. i wanted to go and smell ushers new perfume and look at Jessica's new shoes. this commercial really drives their business. it encourages people to shop there, all while being a star! definitely one of my new fave commercials.

Swap Your Ride...

I have seen the commercials on TV for the Ford Challenge, and really find them interesting. Ford decided not to shoot another same old commercial, they decided to do market research. Instead of telling people they were from Ford, they told them they were doing market research. Ford let them swap out their "ride" for a similar car from Ford. The videos all show them liking the car. I don't know if this is true though. I'm sure they had something negative to say about the car. People always have something negative to say. But I do think this is a good idea from Ford. I like how they showed it on TV. The only thing is, they haven't told the results of the research. They just said that, "the results speak for themselves." And then they give the opportunity for you to "Swap Your Ride."

Yahoo! Avatars

I have never heard of this before. I still do not know what it does. I went online and mistakenly made an Asia Avatar, but it didn't matter because it was all the same. My first suggestion would be to put up what this is used for. I don't really even know what to call it, a service or project, I don't know! Secondly, I saw that you can search for different things on the website, but after I had already gone through every page to find what I liked. Maybe make the search box bigger. With that said I would have more categories, like "extras" had, with clothes and backgrounds. There was way too many pages to click through to find what I liked. An update to the wardrobe would help too. Some clothes were OK, but what was with the bath towel? Finally, put BIG sunglasses on there! Not geeky heart ones! Something that would also help would be to put the brand names of items on things, if the law allows! Put "Dior" down the side of a big pair of sunglasses! That would be fun! But really, I don't know what this is used for, so I'm not too sure any of this would work!

Only..Old Navy

so i love the new ad for the old navy sweaters. the commercial is so cute and everyone is gorge in it. i don't think this ad in any way offensive. this ad is surely less offensive than the one we last discussed in class. in the ad there is a cute guy, drinking a cup of coffee, a couple of models, fully clothed and a couple cuddling with each other towards the end of it. to me that is harmless. i hope that no one is offended by this ad. its just great, the song is pleasant, it makes you want to throw on your fave sweater and cuddle up near the fireplace. (harmless) and this ad really makes me want to go check out old navy with their new isle sweater collection. i love their new phrase...only old navy. everyone loves to shorten up things..and i think its just enough said. short and sweet!

Simply Vera

I had a really bad view on the new Vera Wang line, Simply Vera, from the beginning. All throughout class I've heard, "It's all for old people" or "It shouldn't have gone to Kohls," but I got my new Marie Claire in the mail and it featured a Simply Vera dress in it. The dress was a "day to night" section, and it said how to dress it down with a cardigan and flats and dress it up with heels and the right accessories. I personally wouldn't buy it, but it is cute. Then the next day, Friday, i was watching Oprah, and they had a Simply Vera fashion show. ALL the clothes were cute. It is a very urban line. Everything must be layered to look as good as it did on the runway, but I would definitely buy some of the pieces. Vera Wang made a good choice by going on Oprah, because the whole time Oprah was like, "I have this" or "I want this." Oprah also said that Vera didn't need to give her anything, she would actually buy it because it was so cheap!

just "facebook" me

so i really enjoyed our discussion about facebook last class. and for the record facebook is so much better than myspace!!! facebook is something that is def not going anywhere and will continue to grow. as long as people are entering their new lives in universities and colleges....facebook will never just be a fad. i just logged on to facebook , that's check #1 for the day, and facebook now has an application for when you first log in, you can do a public searching list. like what we were discussing in class. you can search more things from a person's welcome page and in a few weeks it may also be found through big search engines like GOOGLE!! there are so many new applications for facebook. just as we were talking about how it could be better.. the creator is already a step ahead of us! and don't worry , b/c you can still control whether you have a public search list or not!

Just Do It


i love all Nike commercials because they really touch me, and in many ways they remind me of the important men in my life. my dad and brother are both really big Yankee fans and every time Derek Jeter appears in one, it reminds me of my family. i love how they have both celebrity athletes and children who are in the commercials.
the commercials really inspire me and motivate me to work harder and push myself to the limit. every time i see a Nike commercial i always get chills. they do a great job of displaying the athlete's heart and soul, even without saying any words. the actions and movements of the athlete say it all. like sports, the commercials are universal and everyone can relate to them. i love them and every time a commercial comes on i make sure to turn it up and watch closely!
